Import Obsidian Canvas and XMind maps into WordPress

LTT Canvas turns Obsidian Canvas boards and XMind mind maps into interactive maps on your WordPress pages. Here is how to bring them over.

What you can import

  • .canvas — one Obsidian Canvas board. Images and notes it references are not inside the file, so you link them afterwards.
  • .zip — an Obsidian folder or a whole vault. Every board inside becomes a map, images go to the Media Library and referenced notes are stored with the map. This is the easiest way to keep everything.
  • .xmind — XMind 8 and XMind 2020 or newer. Every sheet becomes a separate map.

Import step by step

  1. Go to LTT Canvas → Import.
  2. Click Choose files and select one or more files.
  3. Choose whether new maps are Published or Drafts.
  4. Click Import. You will see one message per map with the number of cards.

If a referenced file was missing, the map shows a placeholder. Open the map and link the file in Files used in the map from the Media Library, then click Update.

What comes over from XMind

Topics and branches, notes, labels, markers (as emoji), links, images, relationships, floating topics and summaries all come over. XMind files do not store positions, so LTT Canvas lays the map out again; adjust cards in the editor if you like.

Show the map on a page

Add the Canvas map block and pick your map, or paste the shortcode from the map screen, for example [ltt-canvas id="16"]. Every published map also gets its own page at /map/slug/.

If an import fails with a size message, the file is larger than your server’s upload limit. Zip only the folder you need, or ask your host to raise the limit.
